Licensing of Microsoft SQL Server 2014

Core pricing

  • Minimum four core licenses required per physical processor (core licenses sold in two-core packs)
  • Cores will be priced at 0.25 the cost of a SQL 2008 R2 processor.
  • No price increase from SQL Server 2008 R2 for processors with one to four cores.
  • Purchase the appropriate number of core licenses for the server.

 Microsoft also aligned the licensing model for its editions according to how clients deploy those solutions:

  • License by cores for Enterprise Edition
  • License per users for Business Intelligence Edition
  • Choice of core licenses or user SALs for Standard Edition
  • License only the virtual cores deployed for each VM (minimum four virtual cores per VM)

1 processor, £465 +VAT per month for 2 cores (sold in 2 core 'packs' with minimum of 4 cores)
